Nebraska Considers Big Game Changes for 2010

The Nebraska Game and Parks Board of Commissioners will consider amendments to big game hunting regulations for 2010 at its regular meeting March 19. The Commission seeks a higher harvest of white-tailed deer, especially in eastern Nebraska, and a further restriction of mule deer harvest in southwest and south-central Nebraska.

Elk Down 57% in Idaho's Lolo Elk Zone; Wolf Impact Cited

Recently completed aerial surveys show a marked decline in elk numbers in game management units 10 and 12, which comprise the Lolo Elk Management Zone. "This survey, combined with ongoing research showing wolves are the primary cause of elk mortality today, is further scientific evidence of the impact wolves are having," Fish and Game Director Cal Groen said.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) 2010 Kansas Spring Turkey Atlas is now available for viewing and download on the agency's website. The atlas shows access to all land in Kansas open to public spring turkey hunting, including Walk-In Hunting Access land. This spring, approximately 173,220 acres of Walk-In land are available, in addition to state and federal wildlife areas.
